My ATHE Itinerary

July 30th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I’m in Denver for the Association for Theatre in Higher Education ( ATHE) conference. Just in case anyone who’s reading this is here as well, I thought I’d let you know when I’ll be presenting over the next several days. All events are at the Grand Hyatt Denver, though that’s not where I’m staying.

  • Wednesday, July 30th, 2:45, Mt. Wilson Room (3rd Floor): Presenting my “Remarks on Queer Space” as part of the LGBT pre-conference.
  • Friday, August 1st, 4:00, Mt Elbert Room (2nd Floor): Participating as an actor, reading several roles as part of a playwrighting panel: “Living Difficult Dialogues: LGBTQ Playwrights Engaging the World.”
  • Sunday, August 3rd, 11:30, Mt Evans A (2nd Floor): Chairing the panel I put together, “Spectacles of Incarceration: (Im)prison(ment) and/as Performance.”

I’m not sure which other panels and events I’ll be attending just yet. I want to take a lot in and do some networking, but I’m also hoping to take a day at some point just to indulge in my hotel’s pool and bar and proximity to a movie theatre.

Anyway: let me know if you’ll be around and we’ll find time for a drink somewhere. And if you’re participating in a panel or whatever let me know and I’ll try to make it.

I noticed a while ago that Lily at The Petite Sophist had cited my essay on Fassbinder’s Querelle and used some of my strategies to talk about the exquisite artificiality and refined camp of Pierre et Gilles. She’s apparently excerpting a paper she wrote for school. Anyway, it was flattering to be cited, and Lily’s post is a pleasure to read (some of her paraphrasing of my arguments is clearer than my original, I’m afraid), so I’m linking to it here.

“In the final stages of the study, we plan to just top the pizzas with actual garbage but, judging from our findings, people will probably eat those too.”
